Garden
The Victorian-style garden provides a respite from bustling Flushing. The Museum uses hand pruning and avoids pesticides to provide a welcoming environment for its bee colonies and other insect pollinators, backyard and migrating wild birds.
Victorian Gardens
The distinguishing concept of a Victorian garden is that its design treats the house and garden as a single unit (called the “home grounds” by Victorians).
The successful garden was both aesthetically pleasing, with ample attention given to various textures and colors, and utilitarian, with many edible or usable plants.
