As we emerge from nearly three years of the pandemic, we hope that you are well and will remember the little jewel in the neighborhood aka, The Voelker Orth Museum, Bird Sanctuary and, Victorian Garden.
We’ve maintained our operations, welcomed visitors, and offered workshops and exhibitions, all without a full complement of traditional support. Our garden remained open and tended for visitors and urban wild birds year-round. And, in 2022, the Museum undertook an extensive restoration of its 30+ wood frame windows in the 1891 house – when key funding sources suspended or delayed their grant support.
Throughout the seasons our programs have been available. In the summertime, we restarted our exhibition program. We’ve offered free Shakespeare performances, family-friendly art workshops, and a Honey Harvest Festival in our beautiful Victorian Garden. Autumn brings fall flowers, the return of school children visiting from public schools, and our Oktoberfest Flushing Style: Sauerkraut & Kimchi with music, raffles and entertainment, It is noted to be one of the best deals in town. Wintertime brings the Holly Tour when you can visit the local historic houses and sing around our piano, enjoy mulled cider and cookies, and a gift mart. Spring is time for workshops, music, and gardening tips.
This year, 2022, started a period of renewal. School children have been returning, we are rekindling community partnerships, and we are preparing to update our period rooms. The Museum will be open for 20 years this coming summer. You’ll hear about new projects, and the return of programs that were placed on hold in 2020. We look forward to seeing you at the Museum and ask that you introduce your friends and neighbors to us, as well.
This is the moment to lend your support. Please renew your membership at a higher rate, give a gift membership or a donation.
On behalf of the creative and dedicated staff, volunteers and Board know that any contribution is put to good use and tax deductible.
Sincerely,
Patricia B. Sherwood, President of the Board of Trustees
